One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
Proverbs 18:24 NIV
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.
John 15:13, 15 NIV
I read an article of a popular dot-com CEO, who got off social media, after attending the funeral of his close friend. He sighted, that whilst this friend who passed away had many friends on his social media account, only a hand full of them were there to attend his funeral. Today in the world of 'selfies' how do you know who is a friend and who isn't. Popular culture has made friendship to be a thing of good times, which is why no one seems to be real on social media, after all, it's all about likes and comments, isn't it?
In your circle, you will always find a friend who will stick close by, that friend is more interested in you when your chips are down, rather than in the good times, and no matter what, the friendship always stays and grows strong. Jesus too has extended his hand of friendship to us, he has called us friends and for the sake of this friendship he laid down his life. And time and again when you fall, He is there extending his hand of love and acceptance, saying No worries, I am with you, let's try again. Jesus is non-judgemental, encouraging and full of love. He knows our every weakness and accepts us for who we are. The choice then is with us, to accept this friendship or to decline.
I pray that God our Father strengthens the bond of affection that unites you as a friend of Christ, and may you accept all that Jesus tells you as a friend. May His Holy Spirit imbibe in you the virtues of loyalty, compassion, and wisdom to be a good friend. Amen
God Bless you and your loved ones :)
